Philippine boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has caused a storm following his remarks in a TV interview that homosexuals are “worse than animals”.

The eight-division world boxing champion turned politician has drawn the ire of gay Filipino celebrities and rights group with his politically incorrect stand.

Pacquiao, who is a member of the Phillipines House of Representatives and positions himself as a conservative Christian politician, is running for senate in the May elections.

In a clip posted online, the 36-year-old former champion tells the interviewer: “It’s common sense. Will you see any animals where male is to male and female is to female?

He has since been condemned as a “hypocrite” and a “false prophet”, with local gay rights organisation Ladlad calling on voters to boycott Mr Pacquiao.

Reacting to this also Sports manufacturing giant Nike has terminated Manny Pacquiao’s contract as brand ambassador following his anti-gay comments.
